Berkshire Gardening and Maintenance Volunteer

Are you looking for a gardening volunteer role in Berkshire or a hands-on maintenance volunteer opportunity? We are seeking practical, reliable volunteers to help maintain our site at National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT).

Our rescue centres require constant care and upkeep to ensure they remain safe, welcoming and functional for our animals, visitors and staff. As a Gardening and Maintenance Volunteer, you will play an essential role in keeping our facilities running smoothly and looking their best.

If you enjoy working outdoors, using practical skills and making a visible difference, this could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you.

Why This Role Is So Important

Our grounds and buildings are used every day by our animals and visiting members of the public. Keeping them safe, tidy and well-maintained is a big task – and one we simply couldn’t achieve without our volunteers.

Your support ensures:

  • A safe and pleasant environment for our animals

  • A welcoming space for visitors and adopters

  • Smooth day-to-day operations across the site

Without our gardening and maintenance volunteers, this simply wouldn’t be possible.

How You Can Support Us

As a Berkshire Gardening and Maintenance Volunteer, you will work alongside our maintenance team to support a range of practical tasks, including:

  • Working on creative solutions to repair and improve outbuildings

  • Using a range of manual and electrical power tools safely and efficiently

  • Sweeping, raking, cleaning and emptying bins to keep the site tidy

  • General gardening including weeding, pruning and watering plants

  • Assisting with maintaining feed supplies to animal kitchens and reception shop areas when required

This is a varied and active outdoor volunteer role in Berkshire, ideal for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work.

What You’ll Gain From Volunteering

Volunteering with NAWT is both rewarding and sociable. As part of our Berkshire team, you will receive:

  • The opportunity to positively impact the daily operation of our rescue centre

  • Training for your role

  • The chance to work alongside a friendly and supportive team

  • The opportunity to meet new people and make friends

  • Tea and coffee provided during your shift

If you are searching for DIY volunteer work in Berkshire or want to contribute your practical skills to a meaningful cause, this role offers a fantastic way to give back locally.

Who We’re Looking For

You would be well suited to this role if you:

  • Have basic DIY skills and are confident using a range of tools (both manual and electrical)

  • Are relatively fit and healthy

  • Enjoy working outdoors in all seasons

  • Are practical, proactive and reliable

  • Have an interest in animal welfare and the work of NAWT

Previous maintenance or gardening experience is desirable but not essential – training and guidance will be provided.
