Meet Otis!

Hello there I'm Otis, and I'm a very beautiful looking dog if I do say so myself! I have come into the centre as a stray so my past isn't clear and a lot of my history is unknown but I have quickly become very popular here with the staff due to my lovely, yet quirky character.

I really do love my walks and I especially love to sniff all the new exciting smells... I have even been to the beach since being here and I loved it! I am a real pleasure to walk on the lead, I will just need to build my confidence up a bit when in new areas as I can get a little worried. I have been fab with dogs when out on my walks and I have proven to be quite a sociable chap around other dogs and I have even shown I like to play too!

When I am more relaxed, I am well mannered, but I can become boisterous when I am playing or if something excites me so my new owners are going to need to help to teach me to be calmer in more exciting situations! I can jump up too when I am excited, so again this is something I am going to need some guidence with, but I am a clever chap with a love to learn new things so I’m sure I will pick it up nicely! I do love to play and I am really good with my toy swaps when I am outside and relaxed in the secure areas here. However, I can feel more insecure when I have my toys in an indoor environment and I have shown some guarding behaviour when I am feeling conflicted and worried. For this reason, my new owners will need to follow the guidance of the team here for management around toys in my new home, but this is something that can be discussed and the team are happy to support any potential owners with this!

Once I trust you, I love to have a cuddle, and you will notice me leaning in against you and trying to hop on your lap, so be prepared to be loved lots by me. Because I am so happy to be around my special people, I probably wont enjoy being left for too long so I would love my new owners to be around a lot of the time to help me settle in. As well as guarding my toys, I am also known to guard my food bowl, so this would need to be managed carefully in the home, following a management plan my friends here will discuss with you! The plan will help me feel safer and more secure when I am eating and it means I will need to have my own space at meal times so that I can relax and not feel I need to guard my bowl from you. Due to my known resource guarding, I will need to be the only dog in the home and I will only be suitable for older teenagers or an adult only home that are happy to support me and my quirks.
