Watford Gala to Celebrate 55 Years of Animal Rescue While Raising Vital Funds to Save Local Rescue Centre

A landmark charity gala celebrating 55 years of the National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford will bring together supporters, local businesses, celebrities and animal lovers on 4th September 2026 to raise vital funds for the redevelopment of the town's much-loved rescue centre.

This prestigious event aims to secure the future of the Watford rescue centre, which has served homeless, abandoned and vulnerable pets across the area for more than five decades.

The redevelopment is urgently needed, with the current facilities now in a serious state of disrepair and unlikely to withstand another winter without significant investment.

The History

For 55 years, the centre has been a lifeline for animals in need, helping to rehome approximately 450 pets every year in and around Watford. Remarkably, 63% of those animals arrive after being found stray or abandoned locally, highlighting the continued importance of the service to both animals and the community.

The gala will not only celebrate the centre's remarkable legacy of animal welfare but also pay tribute to Watford itself; a town whose generosity, compassion and community spirit have helped sustain the rescue centre for generations.

What to expect on the night

In recognition of this local connection, the event will be hosted at one of Watford's most prestigious venues, The Grove Hotel & Spa, and will showcase live entertainment from performers with strong ties to the town.

Guests will enjoy performances from X-Factor winners Rak-Su, alongside Elite Elton, The UK’s No.1 Elton John Tribute Experience.

The evening will be hosted by renowned British actor and animal welfare campaigner Peter Egan, whose longstanding commitment to animal rescue makes him the perfect figurehead for this special occasion.

Guests will be welcomed to an elegant evening featuring a three-course fine dining experience, accompanied by wine and followed by coffee and petit fours.

Throughout the night, supporters will have the opportunity to contribute further through an exclusive silent auction and a high-value live auction hosted by BBC television personality Paul Martin.

Adding to the evening's celebrations, professional photographer Jermaine Chandra will be providing studio-style photography sessions, allowing guests to take home lasting memories of the event in the form of framed prints, which will be available to purchase on-site. A portion of every sale made will be donated directly to the rescue centre redevelopment project.

Ticket Information

Tickets for the gala are priced at £250 per person, with every ticket purchased helping to secure the future of a service that has transformed the lives of thousands of animals over the past 55 years. You can purchase tickets here.

We hope the event will inspire the community to come together and invest in the next chapter of the rescue centre's story, ensuring that homeless and abandoned pets continue to receive care, shelter and a second chance for generations to come.

As the rescue centre marks its 55th anniversary, the message is clear: this is more than a celebration of past achievements. It is an opportunity to safeguard a vital community resource and ensure that Watford's tradition of compassion towards animals continues long into the future.
