Rising Vet Costs Are Putting Pressure on Animal Charities
Vet fees are one of the largest and fastest-growing expenses for animal charities like NAWT, and they continue to rise every year. The average cost to medically treat an animal arriving at our centres is now £200, an increase of 37% from £146 just two years ago.
It’s a worrying trend that’s been echoed across the country. With vet bills climbing, more pet owners are sadly being forced to delay treatment or, in some heart-breaking cases, have their pets put down. For NAWT, this means we’re seeing more animals arriving with serious medical conditions that urgently need treatment and care.
Our mission has always been to help these neglected, homeless and abandoned animals find safety and love again. But as extreme cases of cruelty and neglect become more common, the cost of giving them a second chance continues to rise.
Introducing Double Donations Week 2025
Double Donations Week 2025 is a special fundraising event running from 2nd to 9th December. This year, the funds will be especially important in helping us tackle the increasing vet costs so we can continue our vital work.
For one week only, every penny you donate will be DOUBLED, thanks to a pledge pot of over £50,000 in matched funding from generous supporters and Champion Funders.
That means your donation will go twice as far helping us to cover essential vet bills, provide life-saving treatments, and give every animal that arrives at NAWT the care they deserve.
Meet Alma: The Greyhound Who Inspired This Year’s Campaign
We’re also proud to introduce our brand-new in-house video for this year’s campaign - “Alma’s Race to Heal.”
This touching animation tells the true story of Alma, a beautiful greyhound who spent her life on the racetrack before coming into our care. When Alma arrived at NAWT, she was suffering from an untreated broken leg, she was exhausted and in need of love and recovery.
Thanks to kind donations from supporters like you, Alma received the medical care she needed and found her forever home where the only race she runs now is to the sofa for cuddles.
Alma’s story is a powerful reminder of why your support matters. Every donation, no matter the size, helps pets like Alma overcome neglect and cruelty to start a new chapter filled with safety, comfort, and love.
