Please meet Hunea,
Poor Hunea had been through so much before coming into our care!
Hunea is a 7 year old Lab x Mastiff.
Hunea was found abandoned and barricaded in an unused stable block, presumably intended to die. Luckily, someone had heard her cries and found her. They were able to feed her though gaps in the stables until she was rescued.
When Hunea first came into our care she was extremely nervous. She would be drop to the floor in fear at any sudden noise or movement. She would often wet herself when a staff member entered her kennel and she would not allow anyone to touch her.
The staff and volunteers at HULA have worked so hard to gain her trust and she will become very excited when she sees someone she knows, she will happily play, walk and have some fuss from this person. Although Hunea is coming along very well she still is very nervous when meeting new people, she really takes her time to get to know someone before she trusts them to touch her. Hunea loves her food, so this helps a lot when winning her over. Hunea's adopters will need to be able to dedicate lots of time and patience to her training and behaviour. She will need constant work and how she will act and behave in any given situation will need to be at the forethought of her adopters mind when taking her out and about. She's very nervous about getting in a van/car.
Hunea is looking for an owner who will continue building her confidence and teach her that life isn’t so scary. She is looking for a calm, quiet, adult only home.
We are only looking for an adopter who has had past experienced with strong dogs and have dealt with behavioural issues, and are not fazed by this. She is not a dog for a first time owner.
