NAWT offers free talks to school and groups local to each centre, about pet care and the work of the charity. Talking to people about responsible pet ownership and reaching the next generation of pet owners is an important part of what we do at NAWT.
We have a range of materials available for primary school aged children, including word searches and mazes. These fun resources are a great way to introduce pet care into the classroom.
Key Stage 1, Word Searches and Classroom Activities:
Classroom rehoming centre role-play activity
Design a poster (get in touch with your local rehoming centre and we’ll display them!)
Maze - Help Zen find his way to his bed
Key Stage 2 activities:
Design a home for a pair of rabbits
Rabbit care - reading comprehension task
The Five Welfare Needs - reading comprehension task
Get in touch with your local centre to discuss booking one of our team to come to you, or organise a talk at the rehoming centre. We offer talks on our rehoming work, pet care, animal behaviour, why rescue centres exists and a talk to encourage a class debate on adopting or buying a pet. Our talks can be tailored for your school or group to help meet specific learning objectives and interests as we continually develop the resources we have available for schools and groups.
"What a great presentation you gave the children this afternoon. Thanks so much for making time for it. They were fascinated to find out about the animals' behaviour" Mrs Cook, Year 2, Europa School UK
