Hours: 16 hours (2 days) per week  (may include occasional weekends), 8:00am-5:00pm.

£8.91 per hour (£7,413.12 per annum pro rata)


At the National Animal Welfare Trust, we never stop caring for our animals and people.  As a rescue and rehoming charity, operating five rehoming centres and three shops across the south of England, we are committed to improving the lives of the UK’s pets, helping around 1,500 animals each year. We have ambitious plans for our future development and need an enthusiastic and self-motivated Animal Care Assistant to join our Bedfordshire team and make a difference. 


About the role:


Reporting to the Centre Manager, your main duties are in line with Open Paw for cats and dogs and will also be working with farm animals and small animals.  Experience of caring for animals in an employment environment or a relevant qualification is essential, as the role covers:


  • Feeding, grooming and exercising the animals.
  • Cleaning the kennels, exercise areas and other animal housing to a high standard.
  • Providing information to members of the public, and assisting with meetings as part of the adoption and rehoming process.
  • Assisting in the implementation of training and health care plans.

About you:


As an Animal Care Assistant, you should be able to work on your own and as part of a team, with a flexible and hardworking approach.  You will demonstrate the flexibility and empathy required when working with animals with a confident, professional and courteous approach to members of the public.
