Save the lives of dogs like Lulu with our Big Give Christmas Challenge Appeal

Before she arrived at NAWT, Lulu was found wandering the streets, abandoned and alone in an awful condition.

An initial welfare assessment raised concerns about her matted fur, incredibly sore skin and a terrible flea infestation. There was no choice but to remove all the hair on her body so that her skin could be efficiently treated. At this stage, it also became clear that Lulu had mammary tumours that would need removing.

Her dreadful condition indicated that she had probably been used for breeding, and subjected to a lifetime of pregnancy after pregnancy, raising litter after litter, as a money-making machine for an unscrupulous breeder with little concern for her welfare. It seemed likely that she had either lived chained outside or in a small area, as she was not confident exploring larger spaces.

A relatively aloof and laid back girl, Lulu wasn't particularly affectionate nor bonded to any particular staff member, suggesting perhaps she'd never known real love.

With your donations, you healed this lovely little girl’s injuries and funded a routine spay operation that has ensured she can never be forced to breed ever again. Instead, she will enjoy the rest of her days as a beloved family member in a happy home.

Whilst she still has two operations to go before her ordeal is completely over, we’re delighted that she will have the opportunity to recover from these operations in a happy home with a lovely lady, who fell for Lulu after seeing a fundraising appeal to help with her medical care.

In her new home, Lulu is spoilt rotten, feasting on delicious home-cooked meals as she settles in and puts the horrors of her past well and truly behind her.

Lulu has developed a wonderful bond with her new owner, where they enjoy short little walks and spending time together in the garden. Following one of her first operations, Lulu even dragged her bed nearer to her new human for extra comfort!

You turned Lulu’s life around and gave her that all-important chance of survival. More than that, you gave her an opportunity to find love, and to understand that not all people want to treat her cruelly; most people are kind and so many people care.
