Today marks the Chinese New Year and 2019 is officially the year of the pig! Did you know our centre in Berkshire is home to two?
In Chinese tradition, each year is named after one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.
Bert, a medium Oxford and Ernie, a small pot-bellied pig are looking for a home together!
Both seven-years-old, Bert and Ernie outgrew their former owners’ garden and now need a big space to be able to live happily.
Having always lived together, this dynamic duo would like to find the same forever home. However it is quite a specific set up that they need.
Once Bert got bigger than Ernie, he started to play a little rough and our staff decided to separate them.
Did you know pigs are extremely sensitive? So we purpose built an enclosure where the pair can still see each other and be reassured, but are separated so Bert can’t accidentally hurt Ernie.
They will need a similar set up in their new home together.
Both pigs are very friendly who enjoy belly scratches and human company. They need a large area with access to the outside and an indoor shelter for each of the pigs to keep warm and dry.
The best home for Bert and Ernie would be with someone who has had experience of owning pigs because they are very intelligent and need stimulation.
