Did you enjoy tonight’s episode of Animal Rescue Live: Supervet Special? Who spotted Felix in the Petplan ad going home with mum and son Mary and Basil?
Fluffy Felix was spotted by Basil’s 17-year-old brother, Ignatius, while he was working his Saturday job as an animal carer at the National Animal Welfare Trust’s Hertfordshire rehoming centre.
The friendly cat had only recently arrived at the centre, but was looking far from handsome. His lustrous long coat was shorn off but his forlorn looks were no obstacle to animal-mad Ignatius, who secretly sent a picture via Snapchat to his brother Basil, 15, saying he must meet the cat.
The sons had been asking mum Mary for pets for years, but she was not keen on the idea. Instead Basil and Ignatius would enjoy meeting their friends' pets, and it was Ignatius’s passion for animals that led him to his Saturday job at the Watford rescue centre.
Perhaps the arrival of Ignatius’s pet gecko, Kevin, five years ago had offered some signs of hope for the brothers.
Soon after the photo was sent, Mary and dad, Alan, were persuaded to visit Felix and became as smitten as their two sons.
“He’s very talkative and very sweet natured,” said Mary.
One home visit later and some training about the NAWT’s unique Open Paw scheme for cats and Felix - with all but his tail fur regrown - is now enjoying life with his new family.
