Can you help save Jazzy from a nasty disease?

Aged seven years old, Jazzy is a very handsome ginger tomcat who arrived at the Hertfordshire centre in July this year, his former owners were sadly unable to look after him anymore.

After being closely monitored, our staff noticed that he was losing weight far too quickly. The vet carried out a blood test, which revealed that poor Jazzy has hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid glands) is a condition that will affect a cat for life. It causes weight loss, restlessness, vomiting, diarrhoea and a rapid heart rate, as well as other unpleasant symptoms. Thyroid hormones are responsible for regulating many body processes, so are very important.

It is the most common hormonal disease in the cat population, often seen in late middle-aged and older cats. Only about 5% of hyperthyroid cats are younger than 10 years of age.

The disease can be managed with medications throughout the day, as well as frequent trips to the vets. However, the best long-term solution for Jazzy would be an operation.

The procedure is known as a thyroidectomy, and the medication to help stabilise his condition will cost £1,000.

Without this treatment, a cat can experience heart failure, blindness and ultimately deterioration in the quality of life, leading to having to be put to sleep.

Of course, that is not the outcome we want for this gorgeous ginger boy, which is why we are asking for your help to fund the operation and give Jazzy the best possible health before he is eventually rehomed.

Cat - Jazzy

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise money for the life-changing treatment. Please give what you can to cure Jazzy’s hyperthyroidism.

Even with this horrible condition, Jazzy is still a happy and affectionate cat. He likes having his long coat brushed, playing with his fishing rod toy and eating some delicious treats.

Please donate what you can so that this cute chap can have the fresh start he deserves, free from this disease and purring his way to a loving forever home.
