NAWT London and Home Counties
Our centre at Watford was our first rescue and re-homing site, acquired by the Trust in 1981. The site had previously been a commercial boarding facility since at least the 1930's, and during the Second World War was advertised as a safe place to evacuate your pets to from London to avoid the Blitz. 65 years later the four and a half acre site is still providing a place of safety and rehabilitation to over 300 animals. As well as being our busiest site it is also home for the Trust's small head office staff. Over the last 25 years the site has been developed to its full capacity,
and many of our facilities are now showing their age and in urgent need
or refurbishment and modernisation. The Trust is currently planning an
ambitious development programme to build a new state of the art 21st Century
rescue and re-homing facility. Discussions are currently being held with
the local planning authority and it is hoped that a full planning application
will be submitted in early 2007. Regular updates on progress will be posted
on the site, so keep coming back to visit us.
