NAWT Somerset - About us
Heaven's Gate Farm Animal Rescue Centre

We take in, and care for, a wide variety of animals at Heaven's Gate. The extensive kennels and cattery are always busy - with the capacity to take up to 60 dogs and 50 cats. The stables and paddocks are home to horses, donkeys and ponies, and the farm area accommodates cows, pigs, sheep and goats. Our pond and poultry enclosures are home to geese, ducks, turkeys, and chickens. We also have a purpose-built peacock enclosure where the larger birds can roam. There are also facilities for rabbits, guinea pigs and aviary birds.

A purpose-built veterinary unit enables all check-ups and routine neutering of animals to be completed on site as well as being able to provide veterinary care for long-term animals.

Kennels and Catteries
The extensive kennel and cattery area is heavily populated and in constant use. Up to 60 dogs can be housed. Each animal has a spacious well-heated sleeping area and run. The dogs have regular access to a series of exercise paddocks as well as being taken out by volunteer walkers. The aim is for short term care and successful re-homing. For our longer stay dogs we do have some larger kennels and retirement chalets.

The Pond
The pond provides a welcome environment for the ducks and geese, most of whom are here for retirement at the Centre. Domestic poultry are housed in adjacent pens.

Stables
Well-appointed stables and paddocks provide a home for the horses, donkeys and ponies who find their way to the Centre. These animals are firm favourites with the many children who visit the Centre and are often sponsored under our special scheme.

Vet Room
The animals are supported by first class veterinary care with an up-to-date operating theatre, modern equipment, x-ray facilities and a hospitalisation unit.

Dog Agility Display Team
At the Centre, dog training and agility classes are held on a regular basis. One to one training and advice can be arranged.

The Rescue Dog Agility Team appears throughout the summer months both at the Centre and at outside events and helps to promote rescue animals. The team consists only of dogs that are at the centre waiting to be adopted or dogs that have gone to new homes and come to Heaven's Gate for training.

New beginnings…
The emphasis at Heaven's Gate Farm, as with all the Trust's animal rescue centres, is short-term care and successful re-homing. Although members of the public are encouraged to come forward to adopt the animals at the centre, we do ask them to think carefully before taking on any animal, as it is a big commitment.

At Heaven's Gate Farm the Trust's policy is to match the right pet with the right owner. By comparing the characteristics of the animals that are available, with the details of the owner's lifestyle, the staff can determine whether a successful relationship will develop between pet and owner.

Heaven's Gate Farm attracts people of all ages and many families come to the farm to see the animals and while away a few hours, some like to enjoy the family picnic area. A gift shop is located in the reception area and also offers pet supplies.

Talks and group tours around the Centre can be arranged, speakers are also available for local clubs etc. With hard-standing for thirty cars, friendly staff and a monthly calendar of events, this beautiful location is somewhere a little different to visit.
