Meet Sammy!

Hello there! My name is Sammy, and I am a 2-year-old male crossbreed that is hoping to find a wonderful home. I came into the centre as a stray, and the team have told me that I am not in the best condition...I have scars on my face and body, and I was quite skinny. Due to me coming in as a stray, they don't have any history on me, but they think that I am part hound, as I have a very hound-like bark!

I am a sweet but initially shy boy, so I like people to go slowly with me and take their time. I am quite good at using my body language to show when I am unsure, by backing away or turning my head/body away from something. I am starting to come out of my shell now that I know that the team are here to look after me, so I am sure that when I am in my forever home I will settle in quickly.

I can live with teenage children that could respect my space and go slowly with me so that I can learn to trust them. I could live with another dog, as long as they weren't too pushy, and we would have to get on during visits here at the centre and at a home visit. A cat in the home would be okay, but we should be introduced slowly and carefully to make sure that we get off on the right paw!

I am not used to being left on my own, so although I do like my own space, I wouldn't want to be left completely alone. I will need there to be someone around whilst I settle in, and then we could start my training in being left alone. I will need training in loose lead walking as well, as I can pull quite a lot when I want to go somewhere, especially if I am following a smell! Scentwork would be amazing for me to learn, as I would find it very relaxing and motivating!
