It costs over £6,000 a day to rescue and care for the animals at NAWT. As we do not receive any Government support, and are not eligible for lottery funding we rely solely on the support and generosity of the general public.

You can either make a one off donation or a regular donation via our secure pages from this website, or print out a direct debit form, complete and send it National Animal Welfare Trust, Tylers Way, Watford by pass, Watford  WD25 8WT.

Thank you for your support.

Animal Sponsorship - Loving is Easy …. Caring Costs

It's easy to be sentimental about animals. But sometimes we owe it to our pets to be realistic. What happens to the abandoned and abused animals that no-one wants? At the National Animal Welfare Trust we try to find them comfortable new homes.

The Trust gives them shelter because we will never put a healthy animal to sleep…..

You can show that you care too - by sharing the care with us. For as little as £1 a week, you can help us to provide safe and secure accommodation for these homeless. Choose from a cat pen and dog kennel, to a green pasture for a goat, and runs for the rabbits and guinea pigs. Together we can ensure their wellbeing, until the Trust can find these animals loving new homes.

In return for your support, you will receive a welcome pack which includes a certificate and welcome letter, a photo of the animal accommodation that you are supporting. A twice yearly sponsor’s newsletter which tells you about the animals, two editions of NAWT’s magazine Animate per year, and a NAWT window sticker and key ring.

But more importantly, you will know that you are doing something practical to help needy animals and give them a second chance at life…..

Legacies - Helping us help animals in the future

We are a registered charity, which receives no government funding, so every penny we receive from animal lovers really counts - and in 2005, over 80 per cent of our income came from gifts left to us in supporters' Wills - their legacies to help us help animals in the future.

The National Animal Welfare Trust has an easy to understand Guide to Making a Will and you can request a copy by contacting legacies@nawt.org.uk or by calling 020 8950 0177. Alternatively if you wish to discuss the possibility of leaving a legacy to the National Animal Welfare Trust, our Chief Executive - David Warner - would be happy to talk to you, please feel free to contact him on 020 8950 0177.

Making a Will gives you the reassurance of knowing where your property will go, who will benefit from your legacy, and what arrangements will be made after your death.

It allows you to provide for your loved ones, and also means that if you want to leave some money for a special purpose - such as helping the National Animal Welfare Trust - you can do so with ease. Remember that whatever you choose to leave to charity will be tax-free.

However you choose to remember us in your Will, please write a letter explaining to your family and relatives why you left a legacy to the National Animal Welfare Trust. You can then be sure they will understand your wishes. You may like to store this letter with your Will.

Also, please let us know if you have included us in your Will. Knowing about your support will help us to plan for the future and, to keep you informed of our work. If you wish we will send you a regular copy of our supporter magazine.

It's easy to leave a legacy to the National Animal Welfare Trust by including a clause in your Will. There are several ways to help fund our work by including the National Animal Welfare Trust in a Will. You can choose to leave:

  • A specific sum of money (called a pecuniary legacy)
  • A valuable item such as a picture, antique vase or a piece of furniture that could be sold to raise money (called a specific legacy)
  • A proportion, or all, of the remainder of your estate after pecuniary and specific legacies have been allowed for.
  • A proportion, or all, of your estate after the death of your spouse or some other person. This means that they are still able to enjoy your possessions (such as the family home) during their lifetime but, after their death, your estate can still go to charity

(Please note: If you wish to leave your share of any jointly-owned assets including property, you should consult a solicitor as special rules apply).

If you have already made a Will and would like to amend it to include a gift to the National Animal Welfare Trust you can ask your solicitor to add a codicil to your Will.

If the total value of your estate is over a certain amount (as of 5 April 2007 this is £300,000) then Inheritance Tax may become liable, but any gift you make to a registered UK charity such as the National Animal Welfare Trust is exempt. In effect this means that the tax payable on your estate is reduced.

Supporters Groups

Supporter Groups are an important part of the National Animal Welfare Trust. They help the animals in our care by raising funds and awareness for our work. They do this through volunteering, running stalls and attending events throughout the region, as well as undertaking local animal welfare and rescue work. You can help the groups in so many ways, through running a stall, shaking a tin, holding a coffee morning or offering to run the marathon!

Their contribution to the running of our rescue and re-homing centres is enormous and we are extremely grateful to them.

There are currently 7 supporters groups, across the country from Cornwall in the West to Thurrock, Essex in the East.

  • Bridgwater supporters group

  • Cornwall branch

  • Finchampstead group

  • Herts & Essex hula

  • Surrey branch

  • Thurrock & South West Essex branch

  • Trindledown supporters group

If you would like to get involved with one of these groups, or would like to set up a new one, then please contact our Fundraising Office on 020 8950 0177 or email fundraising@nawt.org.uk

Recycle your old mobile phones and empty ink cartridges - Recycle with Reclaim-It

In the UK alone, over 2 million printer cartridges are thrown away and 15 million mobiles are left, unwanted, each year!

Every cartridge thrown away could be feeding a National Animal Welfare Trust animal for a week and every mobile left in a draw could help purchase much needed veterinary equipment and treatments.

To help you recycle the National Animal Welfare Trust have partnered up with a leading Electronic Waste Management company called Reclaim-It, who are giving you the opportunity to get involved!

All we need you to do is collect empty cartridges and mobile phones instead of throwing them away. We currently have a couple of methods for collecting your cartridges and phones.

Request a free-post envelope - all you need then do is pop your item inside and post to Reclaim-it for free.

Perhaps you work in a small office or a shop where you could display a box of free post envelopes for your customers' and colleagues' use.

Or does your workplace go through a lot of cartridges? If so, why not order a cartridge collection box for your workplace. When it's full all you need to do is email us and we will organise collection and for a new one to be sent out straight away.

To request any of the above all you need to do is e-mail watford@nawt.org.uk with your contact details and requests, you will then receive an email explaining when to expect your delivery.
